An urgent alert has been issued within the community over attempted asset theft following the hacking of the social media account of Vet Kusama, a prominent figure in the Shiba Inu (SHIB) ecosystem.
According to a March 6 (local time) report by cryptocurrency media outlet U.Today, the X (formerly Twitter) account of Vet Kusama, a key member of the Shiba Inu community, suffered a security breach. U.Today analyzed that the incident is being used as a sophisticated scam targeting participants in the Shiba Inu ecosystem, requiring immediate caution at the community level.
The compromised account, @vetkusama, is currently under the control of scammers and is being used as a tool to lure victims. The attackers are reportedly sending mass direct messages containing false offers in an attempt to steal users’ assets or personal information. Experts noted that the attackers are employing a typical tactic of hijacking highly trusted accounts within the community to lower victims’ guard.
Shiba Inu community member Ragnarshib strongly warned through his channel, “Vet Kusama’s account has been hacked, so do not respond under any circumstances until it is recovered.” He repeatedly urged the community not to reply to messages or click on any included links until the situation is resolved, as scammers are sending direct messages with false proposals.
In the virtual asset market, account takeovers impersonating well-known figures have become a common method for executing phishing or fraud schemes. Members of the Shiba Inu community are advised to exercise extreme caution and to verify information through official channels before responding to any messages or offers from potentially compromised accounts. In particular, connecting a wallet to an unverified website carries a high risk of asset theft.
The Shiba Inu team is focusing on preventing further damage by emphasizing voluntary reports from the community and adherence to official security guidelines to ensure ecosystem safety. Security experts warn that simply clicking on an uncertain link can lead to personal data leaks and recommend blocking all contact with the affected account until an official recovery announcement is made. Virtual asset investors are urged to strengthen their awareness of social engineering attacks as much as their technical security measures.
