[Cotun] “Quantum Computers Do Not Pose an Immediate Threat to Bitcoin”

According to cryptocurrency-focused outlet U.Today, crypto exchange Bitfinex stated that quantum computing has not yet reached a level capable of threatening Bitcoin’s (BTC) cryptographic system at its current stage of development. Through X, Bitfinex explained that “to break Bitcoin would require millions of stable qubits and the ability to execute Shor’s algorithm at a massive scale,” adding that existing hardware is far from that level. The exchange also noted that discussions are underway within the community regarding countermeasures, including transitioning to wallet structures that minimize public key exposure, adopting lattice-based signatures, and the BIP-360 proposal. Bitfinex added that if the quantum threat were to materialize, it would most likely occur in the mid-to-late 2030s.
