An early investor in Ethereum (ETH) has awakened after nearly a decade and realized returns amounting to thousands of times the original investment, drawing significant market attention.

According to a March 4 report by crypto media outlet The Crypto Basic, an investor who participated in Ethereum’s initial token sale in 2014 broke years of silence and moved more than half of their holdings to an exchange. On-chain data analysis shows that the wallet owner had held the Ethereum for approximately 9.6 years without making a single transaction.

The investor initially invested about $31 to secure 100 ETH. With Ethereum currently trading at several thousand dollars per token, the total value of the holdings stands at approximately $295,000. The astronomical return of more than 950,000% on the initial investment highlights the extraordinary gains enjoyed by early adopters.

The investor transferred 50.1 ETH out of the total 100 ETH to the cryptocurrency exchange Kraken. In the crypto market, when a whale moves assets to an exchange, it is generally interpreted as a step toward selling and cashing out. Market participants are closely monitoring the potential short-term impact on Ethereum’s price and are wary of possible large-scale selling pressure.

On-chain tracking platforms such as Lookonchain report that wallets belonging to early Ethereum investors have been reactivating more frequently in recent months. Movements from long-dormant wallets are often used as a key indicator in assessing whether the market is nearing a peak. Investors are tracking the flow of funds from major whales and changes in liquidity across leading exchanges to shape their strategies.

As the Ethereum ecosystem matures and early investors’ desire to realize profits grows, market volatility is expected to increase further. Amid the inflow of institutional capital and evolving regulatory conditions, the actions of early whales are viewed as a barometer of the market’s maturity. Investors are closely analyzing subtle on-chain movements to prepare for upcoming price trends.
