Interest in altcoins on social media has dropped sharply in the cryptocurrency market, further solidifying Bitcoin’s dominance.
On March 5 (local time), Cointelegraph cited data from blockchain analytics firm Santiment, reporting that public interest in the altcoin market has fallen to its lowest level in recent months. As Bitcoin (BTC) increases its market share and expectations for an altcoin season fade, retail investors are either dispersing their attention or leaving the market altogether.
Santiment stated that analysis of altcoin-related keywords and sentiment indicators across social media platforms shows a significant decline in public interest compared to the second half of last year. In particular, mentions of major altcoins such as Ethereum and Solana have decreased, accelerating the concentration of market liquidity into Bitcoin. Experts note that continued institutional inflows through spot Bitcoin ETFs have effectively shifted market leadership entirely to Bitcoin.
The subdued participation of retail investors is attributed to the sluggish price performance of altcoins as well as heightened volatility across the broader crypto market. On social media, attention has narrowed to specific themes such as artificial intelligence or real-world asset tokenization rather than altcoins overall, and expectations of a broad-based altcoin rally have weakened considerably. While some in the market interpret the prevailing apathy as a potential bottom signal for altcoin prices, the dominant view remains that caution is warranted.
With Bitcoin dominance continuing to hover above 50%, the marginalization of the altcoin market is expected to persist for the time being. As public attention wanes, capital is moving toward identifying undervalued projects, and the next altcoin season is likely to unfold with a stronger emphasis on technological fundamentals rather than the broad speculative surges of the past. Amid ongoing restructuring in the crypto market, the performance gap between Bitcoin and altcoins appears set to continue.
