Dogecoin (DOGE) plunged again just a day after posting a double-digit surge, giving up a significant portion of its gains. Market analysts say the decline appears to be driven more by short-term profit-taking and weakened investor sentiment than by any specific negative catalyst.

According to investment outlet The Motley Fool on March 6 (local time), Dogecoin fell about 7.7% during intraday trading, ranking among the biggest decliners among major cryptocurrencies. The price traded at around $0.09, erasing much of the more than 15% gain recorded the previous day.

With a market capitalization of approximately $14 billion, Dogecoin is a leading meme coin whose price movements are heavily influenced by demand from online communities. Due to this characteristic, its volatility tends to be more pronounced than other assets when overall market sentiment weakens.

The outlet explained that amid an overall bearish market environment, the previous day’s sharp rally had limited potential to develop into a sustained upward trend. It also noted that the current conditions differ significantly from the pandemic-era environment, when consecutive double-digit rallies were more common.

Although Dogecoin has some use cases as a low-cost peer-to-peer payment token, including online tipping, recent efforts related to the House of Doge have yet to deliver tangible results at the level the market had anticipated.

In addition, key network indicators such as total value locked, transaction volume, and the number of active wallets have not shown clear signs of growth, further dampening investor expectations. Ultimately, the report interpreted the latest decline as the result of profit-taking following the previous day’s surge combined with an overall cooling of investor sentiment.
